In a chilling occurrence, a 24-year-old man was caught posing as a 16-year-old high school student in Ohio. The suspect has been identified as Anthony Labrador.
Thomas Hosler, the superintendent of a Perrysburg school, sent out a letter to parents and community members in the spirit of transparency. “I just received this frightening letter from the school,” the post on Reddit was captioned. In the note, the school administration revealed that the suspect had enrolled in the school on January 11, 2024, as an “unaccompanied minor.”
According to WTOL11, Labrador presented falsified documents to the school. He also allegedly used said documents to obtain a Social Security number, an Ohio driver’s license, and several other essential documents.
During the suspect’s time at the Perrysburg school, he was involved in swimming and soccer activities. He was also placed under guardianship with a local family. However, on May 14, Labrador’s guardian family contacted the school after an unidentified woman had shown up, claiming the suspect had impregnated her.
This prompted an investigation into the suspect’s background. Although he initially denied the allegations, he was prevented from accessing school property while the investigation was still ongoing. Eventually, through their investigation, police officers found another family claiming to be Labrador’s real family.
Following the conclusion of the investigation, the Perrysburg Police released a statement that read: “Through our investigation and working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, it was discovered that Anthony Emmanuel Labrador Sierra, a 24-year-old from Venezuela, had used fraudulent documents to enroll in Perrysburg Schools, and was posing as a 17-year-old high school student.”
Subsequently, the suspect was arrested and charged with felony forgery charges.
When the story broke on social media, numerous social media users reacted to the news. One commented, “There’s a movie waiting to be made here.” Another remarked, “There are so many much cooler things he could’ve done with all that forgery.”
One user pointed out that they were not surprised by the incident but by the fact that it took the school one and half years to notice. Another user echoed his thoughts with the comment: “Anthony Labrador sounds like a fake name 3 dogs in a trench coat would use to sneak in somewhere.”
An individual added, “The 24-year-old is a paid actor hired by republicans to justify mass deportation. Just like the Haitians eating cats, fake news!”
Notably, the Perrysburg School District has now reviewed its policies regarding individuals who intend to enroll as unaccompanied minors. In the letter sent out to parents, Hosler thanked the Perrysburg Police Division for its involvement in the case and swift action taken. He also urged anyone with more questions regarding the incident to direct them to the police at this moment.
