Furious 7 brought in $18.2 million for its fourth weekend which was enough to claim the top spot at the domestic box office. Furious 7 now has a total of $320 million in the domestic box office. Though the fast & furious movie also sped one billion dollars at the foreign box office and now stands at $1.3 billion worldwide. Furious 7 is now one of three movies to reach the one billion dollars at the foreign box office and now ranks fifth of all time worldwide box office gross.
The movie dropped by 37.4% which is the movies best week-to-week drop since it debuted earlier this month. Next week, Furious 7 will take a big hit as Avengers: Age of Ultron releases though Furious 7 should pass $350 million at the domestic box office by the end of its run and could reach $1.5 billion worldwide which would be enough for it to match 2012’s Marvel’s The Avengers.
Though Furious 7 finished first for this weekend, on Friday, The Age of Adaline was able to take the first spot at the start of the weekend. Though the Blake Lively drama dropped as it went through the rest of the weekend, it was able to still bring in $13.3 million which was enough for the third spot. The Age of Adaline should hold well against next weeks Avengers: Age of Ultron though it will take a hit throughout May as each week brings in new releases. It should finish with around $40 million by the end of its run.
For the rest of the box office, Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 had a great hold for its second week as it only dropped 35% as it brought in $15.5 million for a total of $43.9 million. The sequel which debuted last week at a much lower margin as its predecessor should reach $60 million.
Home held onto the fourth spot with $8.3 million which was only a 22% drop from last week. The animated movie passed $150 million this weekend and should go home with at least $175 million. Horror, Unfriended dropped down to the fifth spot with a 61% drop though it managed to take in $6.2 for its second weekend. Though the movie took a big hit in its second weekend, its playing very well as the movie had a very light marketing push and with the movies budget being shy of one million dollars, its a big win for the studio. It stands at $25.1 million and could crawl to $40 million.
Ex Machina, which expanded to 1,255 theatres had a fantastic wide debut as it brought in $5.4 million and ranked sixth at the box office. Ex Machina has been in limited release the past couple weeks and has reached $6.9 million. The movie is planned to expand over the next couple weeks and depending how it matches against the summer blockbuster season it could be a surprise hit.
Next weekend, Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in North America and should easily take the top spot at the box office as its currently tracking at least a $200 million debut.
