Michael Fultz, a Brevard County deputy sheriff hired in 2024 and named Deputy of the Year in 2025, has recently resigned after an internal investigation uncovered alleged misconduct, including stalking his ex-girlfriend and threatening her with a firearm. The case enraged Florida residents, who were outraged to see a man accused of breaking protocol in such a way still being named Deputy of the Year.

As reported by 404 Media, the investigation began after Fultz’s ex-girlfriend filed a complaint with the sheriff’s office, leading to an investigation that uncovered multiple allegations of misconduct. Investigators found that Fultz allegedly used Flock cameras to stalk his ex and took intimate pictures of her with his service weapon in her mouth.

The investigation also reportedly discovered that Fultz posed as Adolf Hitler and performed a salute, used racial slurs, broke the law while creating content for his motorcycle-themed social media accounts, and more. After the investigation, Fultz resigned.

Floridians Are Enraged With ‘Deputy of the Year’

Florida residents on r/Florida became angry after discovering that an officer accused of this kind of conduct was so highly regarded within the force: “Just another armed gang, but with a uniform, a license to kill, public funding, and legal cover.”

One resident complained about Flock cameras: “These Flock stories are just hammering home how little work police in Florida actually do.” Others cracked jokes at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office’s expense: “That’s all it takes to be Deputy of the Year?”

Someone asked: “What is it about law enforcement that these are the type of people drawn to the job?” Others answered: “Craving authority, minimal professional opportunities, and an average IQ as mandated per hiring instructions and upheld by the Supreme Court. What could go wrong?” Another user gave the following reason: “Also, a job that doesn’t require a college degree. It should. An undergrad that has law, psych, and sociology classes would make for better law enforcement.”

This is just one of many recent cases of police officers allegedly abusing Flock cameras, which have partially soured public sentiment toward the technology.

Recent examples include an officer accused of using Flock cameras 717 times to track the vehicle of his estranged wife and a sheriff’s deputy who searched across 83,000 cameras for a woman he believed had had an abortion.
