It’s been months since Gabrielle Union‘s revelation on going 50/50 on bills with her husband caused a stir on social media. Recall that in 2023, social media went into a frenzy following a revelation that Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade contributed equally to the bills. Although the former Basketball player responded and gave reasons for his wife’s actions, fans still dragged Union online, calling her a dominant woman. Recently, the actress recalled fans’ reactions to her interview after a tweep shaded ladies who refused to submit to a man and split the bills.
Gabrielle Union On Going 50/50 On Bills With Her Husband
In May 2023, Union appeared on an episode of the Black Millionaire’s podcast and made a surprising revelation about her marriage. While speaking to host James Hill, the 51-year-old shared that she and her husband split their finances evenly.
“In this household, we split everything fifty-fifty,” she said.
Union further explained that her anxiety about being financially secure prompted her to be a workaholic.
“I struggle with that still. I think I just have more responsibilities for my money. I get nervous like, ‘Oh God, that movie didn’t open you know what does that mean? Do I – Am I … Am I going to have enough to hold everybody up?'” she explained.
About a month after Gabrielle Union’s revelation of going 50/50, Wade opened up about the controversy. During an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, the former NBA star clarified that Union decided to split the bills after he made a comment she didn’t like. Wade explained that during an argument inside their former Florida mansion, he told his wife they were inside “my house that I paid for.” According to him, his wife of nine years, Union, looked at him and said:
“You will never say that to me again when it’s something that we share.”
From then, the actress took up half of the bills.
Gabrielle Union Responds to Tweet on Submission and Going 50/50 On Bills
Given that Union’s 2023 interview opened the floodgates of backlash, it is no wonder why the star recently replied to a tweet about splitting the bills equally.
“B****es rather pay all her bills than to submit to a man and pay 50/50,” the tweet read.
Union sarcastically responded, bringing fans’ attention back to when she was slammed.
“Wholeup wholeup wholeup 🤔 I thought 50/50 was no bueno. And wouldn’t 50/50 be ‘submitting’ to one another? And what precisely do we need to do to not be considered a b***h?” she replied.
In no time, fans trooped to the comments section with their thoughts. On one hand, many maintained that Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade splitting the bills despite the latter being richer wasn’t ideal. On the other hand, fans revealed that it was 50/50 with a partner or 100% alone. With the 50/50 issue rearing its head again, it seems it is one topic that will always bring up debates.
