Marvel is heading back to “The Silver Age” with the completion of Gaiman and Buckingham’s Miracleman series. After taking over the series back in the late 80’s, Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham’s saga was axed mid-storyline. A shame considering how much the two visionaries had expanded upon the Miracleman Universe. Now, after almost 30 years, Marvel is completing the series with the release of Miracleman By Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age.
Miracleman, Gaiman and Buckingham Oh My!
The modern era of Miracleman began back in 1982. This brought forth new perceptions of what comics could do. It introduced dark but socially relevant interpretations of the Super Hero genre. This new take on comics and heroes led Time Magazine to label the series as a “must-read” for scholars and fans. This impact is largely due to Gaiman and Buckingham’s bold vision and storytelling.
Now, fans can catch up with Miracleman and his compatriots with the re-release of the early chapters. Next month, it all kicks off with Miracleman By Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age #1. This collects the beginning of the series along with new, remastered artwork and bonus content. This is followed by November’s Miracleman By Gaiman & Buckingham: The Silver Age #2, which is also a remaster of previously released chapters in the saga. Finally, in December all-new material from the original duo continues the story in the third installment.
Anything Else?
Along with the continuation and re-release, Miracleman #0 is hitting shelves next month. This one-shot lets longtime fans and newcomers get excited for Miracleman’s return. This giant-sized issue celebrates the 40th anniversary of Miracleman’s modern era. It takes readers on a journey through the mythology of the hero in a collection of short stories. These stories from from creators like Mike Carey, Peach Momoko, Jason Aaron, Ryan Stegman, and more. Plus, Gaiman and Buckingham have crafted a framing story to set up the upcoming return of the Marvel character.
This mega-sized one-shot hits shelves on October 5.
