Many years we have been promised a film about this fan favorite mutant. Gambit‘s promises are once again falling short – at least for now.
As this movie continues to undergo rewrites, director Doug Liman has moved into talks to work on another movie. The Gambit film has already been delayed once when its original director Rupert Wyatt left. Previously scheduled to release in October, it is now predicted that filming won’t even begin until the end of this year. Casting is questionable; other than Channing Tatum, who is locked in for the part of Gambit, Liman may have to begin searching for other characters from scratch. Lea Seydoux was originally cast as Tatum’s leading lady, but after Wyatt left the film it is unclear what role she may have to play in Gambit.
While waiting for Reid Carolin to rewrite the script, director Liman is turning his attention to working on The Wall. The Wall is a psychological thriller picked up by Amazon Studios, and if Liman directs it he will most likely be finished by the beginning of summer.
In the meantime, it falls on Carolin to work on rewrites. Carolin is Tatum’s producing partner and has worked with him on both of the Magic Mike films. Hopefully, the superhero film will suffer no more setbacks, and Marvel fans can be excited about seeing Gambit on the big screen once more.
