The eighth and final season of HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones, based off the novels A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin, is about to be released. To keep fans on their toes, Sky Atlantic, which airs the show in the United Kingdom, released new photos on its Instagram account. Most seemed to focus on Daenerys Targaryen in Winterfell. But we also see many up close shots of Brienne, Bran, Sansa, Jorah, and Jon Snow.
These shots tease at much of the scenes happening around Winterfell. Which is expected, since the Night King’s undead army is coming for Westeros. Fans eagerly await to see the fate of all of their favorite characters as Game of Thrones wraps up its storyline.
While the story HBO has been following is coming to an end, author George R. R. Martin is still releasing novels. Fans of the books will know that there is some difference in the storyline, more characters, and more locations. So if you are feeling sad about the ending of the television series you can still enjoy the world of Westeros all you want in the books!
Game of Thrones has no doubt had an enormous cultural impact and launched its younger or “unknown” actors into superstardom.
The final season airs Sunday, April 14th at 9/8c. You can check out the exact schedule and run times for each episode here. HBO has announced that a week after the series finale it will air a behind the scenes documentary to show the production of the final season. It will be the end of an era for HBO, certainly, and we’ll just have to see if HBO can keep up the momentum. There has been confirmation of more shows focusing on the histories of Westeros and other characters coming to the HBO platform. Time will tell if these can be as impactful and as incredible as Game of Thrones.Â
