Fans of Game of Thrones may officially have more than one prequel show to look forward to. According to a report from Deadline, a prequel show dedicated to the history of the Targaryen line, Fire and Blood, might be in the works.
It is believed that the show will follow the book Fire and Blood, a history of the beginnings of the Targaryen line. Taking place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones:
House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.
While HBO has yet to give an official statement, Deadline reported that the Game of Thrones prequel is close to getting a pilot order. Along with that information, it was also reported that Ryan Condal, co-creator and executive producer behind Colony, is involved along with the great George R.R. Martin himself.
As of right now, most of the prequel ideas remain shrouded in mystery. Along with the new rumors of Fire and Blood, one prequel shot a pilot earlier this summer. Starring Naomi Watts and written by Jane Goldman, it “chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour”. At this point in time, there may or may not be up to six Game of Thrones prequels being discussed.
