Coming off of directing the last two episodes of Game of Thrones “The Blood of my Blood” and “The Door”, director Jack Bender took to answering a few questions in an interview for Vanity Fair Magazine. In the interview, he talks about handling big reveals in such a popular show, including the death of a beloved character and the return of another. The interview had a question come up if he will direct another episode in the future seasons:
“I don’t know the answer to that. They’re only doing seven [episodes], and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever… I had a great experience doing the show. If available and they wanted me to, I would love to do that.”
This means a few things. As of now, rumor highly suggests there are only 13 episodes left in Game of Thrones, while ending with Season 7 or 8 (most likely Season 8). With 7 episodes being suggested in this interview for next season, that could mean that the final season could only be 6 episodes if the 13 episode rumor holds up.
It is worth noting that this is only pure speculation and rumor. HBO has yet to announce anything officially, but since Season 6 is coming to a close soon, we could hear some news on what to expect in future seasons; possibly at comic-con in July.
Though there is no official news, there is also more rumors suggesting that there will be a spin-off on Game of Thrones for when the show ends whether it is in Season 7 or 8. Fans have been wondering if there could be a movie to end the series, whether it is theatrical or just on HBO.
Season 6 of Game of Thrones only has 4 more episodes left. Episode 7 “The Broken Man” premieres at 9 pm on Sunday on HBO.
