Game Science’s action RPG, Black Myth Wukong, will not be easy to port to Xbox, and the studio’s CEO and founder, Yocar-Feng Ji, has confirmed that optimization issues with the Xbox Series S are to blame.
The news surfaced after Feng Ji shared his thoughts on the game’s success during a post on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. He went on to express his gratitude for Black Myth Wukong winning three Steam Awards in 2024, stating that the recognition made him feel “a little emotional.” However, he also addressed the absence of an Xbox port, citing technical challenges with the Series S as the reason.
According to Feng Ji, the Series S’s “10G of shared memory” has become a major problem for the development team. He explained that achieving the necessary optimization for the platform would require “several years of optimization experience,” which makes it unfeasible for the studio to release the game on Xbox, at least not anytime soon.
Reports of the Black Myth Wukong port facing challenges on the Xbox Series S have been circulating since last year, with speculation that the console’s hardware limitations were causing delays. While a Microsoft representative previously denied these claims, stating that the game’s delay was not due to “Xbox platform limitations,” and that console exclusivity was to blame. But Feng Ji’s recent comments confirm that the Series S’s memory constraints were indeed the issue.
Black Myth Wukong has been one of the most talked-about games in recent memory. The game got nominated at every award show, and even here at The Nerd Stash, it secured a stop among the Top 5.
While the game is available on other platforms, Xbox players—particularly those on the Series S—will have to wait indefinitely, if not permanently, for a port. For now, Game Science has its hands full optimizing the PC port, and adding the Xbox One to that means it will take quite some time.
