Gamers Aren’t Impressed With Monster Hunter Wilds’ Not Running in 60FPS, Capcom: ‘We’re Still Testing PS5 Pro Compatibility’

Let the team cook until the game is Well-Done

The recently unveiled PC specifications for Monster Hunter Wilds are driving the series’ fans wild — and not in a good way. The upcoming game doesn’t only demand SSD, but expects players to run RTX 2070 Super to reach Medium settings. We’re not even mentioning how Frame Generation is needed just to get the game to run at 60 FPS! While gamers are glancing at consoles in hopes of a better experience, it seems the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence. Several content creators have shown disappointment over Monster Hunter Wilds‘ demo build performances while Capcom still isn’t sure if PS5 Pro‘s upgraded hardware would help.

During this week’s Tokyo Game Show, a content creator named Louzou (via DeepL) shared their frustration on the Bilibili Chinese social network. According to their experience playing the PS5 demo, Monster Hunter Wilds barely keeps up at 30 FPS and stutters “during intense scenes.” The console version also does not seem to offer Performance Mode which should be able to boost its frame rate.

“On PS5 running at 30 FPS, the demo doesn’t have Performance Mode. The game stutters during intensive FX scenes, the texture quality is underwhelming, some rocks completely miss textures. Frame rate is rather low during combat.”

Similar criticisms were mirrored by players during the August Gamescom as well. Popular Monster Hunter content creator Canta Per Me said it didn’t run at 60 FPS and there was no Performance Mode option.

With this, PlayStation Monster Hunter Wilds players are expecting the Pro upgrade to be their saving grace. But series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto’s answer to this issue doesn’t lend much confidence for the game’s current build so far. Asked about the potential benefits of PS5 Pro by the Japanese media Dengeki Online, Tsujimoto said the team is “still testing” compatibility with the hardware.

“Truth be told, we’re still in the process of testing for compatibility with the PS5 Pro, so we can’t provide any clear information at the moment. Once we have something to share, we will announce it, so please stay tuned for future updates.”

Players believe that this is caused by the series’ shift to a seamless open-world map. The game’s engine might be struggling to process many wildlife and NPC activities at the same time. A similar problem occurs in Dragon Dogma 2 as well, causing terrible memory leaks.

Of course, it’s important to remember that demos are often built on earlier versions of the game. There’s hope that Monster Hunter Wilds will offer a smoother and more refined experience on better hardware like PS5 Pro.

After all, Monster Hunter Wilds has the potential to be another sleeper hit for Capcom just like World. However, between the outrageous PC specs and the event demo performance, fans are now concerned with the developer’s RE Engine scalability. Especially since the game is releasing in just 5 months on February 28, 2025. Many thought that Dragon’s Dogma 2 troubled launch would’ve been a lesson for the company– but it might’ve been a warning for future releases instead.
