Are you ready to fight vast armies, run from oceans of the dead, and scale historical architecture? Xbox has you covered. Microsoft has announced the latest onslaught of Games with Gold goodies. Available this month, you can grab…
Ryse: Son of Rome — April 1st to 30th (Xbox One)
The Walking Dead: Season 2 — April 16th to May 15th (Xbox One)
Darksiders — April 1st 15th (Xbox 360)
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations — April 16th to 30th (Xbox 360)
For those wanting some insight into what these games offer, let me explain.
Ryse: Son of Rome is a stunning hack and slash action game developed by Criterion games. You play through the tale of Roman centurion Marius Titus as he rises the ranks of Roman’s armed forces. The game’s combat is gory and relentless, as you slash off limbs, and pierce throats through commonly recurring quick time events. Ryse: Son of Rome may have been an Xbox One launch title, but it is still one of the consoles best exclusives. If you hadn’t had a chance to play it, change that.
The Walking Dead: Season 2 will be free to Gold subscribers half way through April. Jump into the series that brought developer Telltale into the world of first-class storytelling, and away from the pit of mediocrity they seemed stuck in. This simple choose your own adventure title, places you into the endearing shoes of Clementine. Clementine has now aged since the first girl and is fully aware that she must protect herself at all times. Be prepared to make some emotional decisions, and check out this title before you play The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, which just saw the release of its third episode.
Curious about all the praise Breath of the Wild is receiving, but don’t own a Nintendo console? Xbox is on it. From April 1st to 15th Darksiders is available on Xbox 360. Prepare to vanquish foes as one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, War. If you’re wondering what to expect when turning on Darksiders, think Zelda meets God of War. Frantic action mixed with thoughtful puzzles. It may not be to the scale of Breath of the Wild, but it’s still a solid experience.
Your final game for this month is a controversial one. Assassin’s Creed Revelations is a solid entry into the series, and the swan song for fan favorite Assassin, Ezio Auditore. Many view Revelations as one of the weaker entries into the series. As the editions, it did make to the Assassin’s Creed formula, such as the hook blade and Ezio’s limited stamina, did little to add to the experience. But by no means is this game any lower than good. It continues on the infamous parkour and assassination missions of previous games and brings to a close the story of one of last generation’s icons.
There you have it. Those are your Games with Gold free games for the month of April. For everything on Games with Gold, stay tuned to Thenerdstash.com.
