The upcoming film The Predator furthers it’s already strong connections to the original installments in the franchise as not only is Shane Black, who co-wrote and directed the 1987 film, returning, but also is Busey. Not Gary Busey though, one of the leads in Predator 2 as special Agent Peter Keyes, but it will be his son Jake Busey instead.
As it often does, art will imitate life in the latest film in the Predator series, as Jake Busey will play the role of the offspring of Peter Keyes. In a video with Pop Culture, the younger Busey revealed that he received a call from the director himself in regards to the role.
“Shane Black called me and he said, ‘Hey, you wanna do this movie? We don’t have money for you but it’ll be a fun thing to come play and be your father’s son.’ And so as much as I have followed in my Dad’s footsteps career-wise, this is like really following in his footsteps by playing a character who is the son of the character he played. And I don’t think there would be any other forum where I would do that. I think this is the one thing.”
Jake Busey’s fifteen minutes of fame so far has consisted of being blown to smithereens in a guest spot on the hit FX series Justified, as well as some other supporting roles in television shows and films like Starship Troopers and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series.
It’s unknown at this point just how similar Jake Busey’s character will be to his fathers and if he’ll suffer the same fate, but it’s interesting to see that The Predator is returning to the roots of its success.
