Cats are great. Mechs are also great. So it stands to reason that a game that combines them would be awesome. But we don’t have to speculate. That’s because developer Doinksoft is testing the theory with their upcoming game, Gato Roboto. Their press release is filled with so many cat puns I almost died reading it. Featuring “Meowtroidvania” style gameplay… I… need a moment… Just watch the trailer:
Alright then, I’m back. So yeah, Gato Roboto has you controlling a cat riding around in a mech. Although there are times where you can exit the mech when you need to access smaller spaces. The story involves you trying to rescue the captain of your crashed spaceship. And as you can see in the trailer it does feature a lot of gameplay elements that were clearly inspired by Metroid. I always thought Metroid could use more cats.
Gato Roboto contains a lot of environmental secrets to encourage exploration of its world. And the intrepid explorer will discover new weapons and items. The battles look fast. And if the game has solid controls, it’s sure to be a lot of fun. It looks like you can pilot at least a few different vehicles. A submarine and turret were shown. This will add some variety to the game. I also just can’t get enough of the monochrome, Gameboy-like art style. It looks fantastic.
So where and when can you get your paws on Gato Roboto? May 30th. And it will be available on both the Nintendo Switch and on PC via Steam. It’s priced at an incredibly reasonable $7.99. And those who pre-order it on Switch right now get an additional 15% off. I mean that’s less than I spent on breakfast this morning. It’s the purrfect time to buy it. So what are you waiting for?
