The Gaudreau family continues to feel the painful loss of their sons, Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau. The NHL player and his brother tragically lost their lives in a drunk-driving accident last week. The late siblings were set to serve as groomsmen in their sister’s wedding the day after their devastating death. Now, for the first time, Katie is speaking out about the gaping hole her brothers’ demise has left behind.
On Monday, Katie, whose wedding had to be canceled due to the double tragedy, dedicated a heartfelt tribute to Johnny and Matthew. “To know these two was to love these two,” she began. “There are absolutely no words I have to express the bond my family shared. The entire world knows there would never have been a John without Matty or Matty without John.” The heartbroken sibling then opened up about her relationship with her late siblings:
“The absolute best big brothers a little girl could have asked for. This will never be a goodbye post because I will never stop saying your names and honoring you both.”
Katie concluded the post by promising to take the best care of the families they left behind. In the tear-jerking post, she included photos of the late brothers through the years.
Johnny Gaudreau’s Widow Vows To Make Him Proud
Johnny and Matthew’s lives were cut short when a drunk driver, Sean M. Higgins, crashed into them when they were riding their bicycles in Salem County, NJ. He was trying to overtake two slow-moving vehicles. Higgins, who admitted to consuming more than five beers before getting behind the wheel, has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. Katie’s eulogy comes after her sister-in-law, Johnny’s wife, broke her silence on his death.
In two Instagram posts, the grieving widow, Meredith Gaudreau, gushed about the beautiful life they shared. “Thank you for the best years of my life. Despite losing you, I am still the luckiest girl in the world to have been yours,” she wrote. Meredith also praised her late husband for being the “absolute best dad” to their children. Johnny is survived by Meredith and their two kids, daughter Noa and son Johnny Jr. Matthew left behind a pregnant wife, Madeline Gaudreau. May their souls continue to rest in peace.
