Gavin Adcock isn’t a Cowboy Carter fan, to say the least. During his latest concert, the “Four Leaf Clover” singer criticized Beyoncé‘s record by saying it “ain’t country music.” He went so far as to say he’s “coming” to take her spot after Cowboy Carter surpassed his own album, My Own Worst Enemy, on the Apple Music charts. His rant has since gone viral on social media, with some people accusing Adcock of racism for being so hostile toward the pop star.
Gavin Adcock Calls Out Beyoncé
A clip shared on TikTok shows Gavin Adcock discussing the top country albums on the Apple Music charts during a recent concert. Currently, Morgan Wallen’s I’m the Problem claims the No. 1 spot, while Parker McCollum’s self-titled album sits at No. 2. Following close behind at No. 3 is Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter. Finally, Adcock’s My Own Worst Enemy ranks at No. 4.
Adcock didn’t appear to have anything negative to say about Wallen or McCollum beating him on the charts. However, he did have some choice words for Beyoncé. “You can tell her we’re coming for her f*ckin’ a**,” he told the crowd, implying he has his eyes set on claiming her spot on the charts.
The audience cheered in support, and Adcock appeared to gain even more confidence after hearing their response. Instead of dropping the topic, he proceeded to blast Cowboy Carter by saying it doesn’t belong in the same category as his album. “That sh*t ain’t country music and it ain’t ever been country music, and it ain’t gonna be country music,” Adcock said. After getting riled up, the musician raised a bottle of alcohol in the air before pointing to the crowd and introducing his next song.
Why Her?
The clip of Gavin Adcock’s rant has received nearly 150K views on TikTok and hundreds of comments. No surprise, most of the replies were from Beyoncé’s fans, who wasted no time defending her. They claimed Adcock was just using the singer’s name for clout. Fans were also amused that Adcock would even consider coming after Beyoncé, considering she’s one of the biggest stars in the world. They joked that Adcock’s comments probably didn’t even concern her since she’s too busy touring. “Meanwhile, Beyoncé winning awards and selling out stadiums,” a fan wrote. “He’s performing in a backyard of 30 people while she performs for about 50,000 people multiple nights in a row in multiple cities,” another said.
Some found it interesting that Adock specifically called out Beyoncé for dabbling in country music when she hasn’t been the only pop star to do so recently. She came out with Cowboy Carter in March 2024. Then, just a few months later, Post Malone dropped his country album, F-1 Trillion, in August. While Malone has been praised for exploring the genre, Beyoncé has received a lot of criticism. Why? Well, fans think it all comes down to racism. “Just say you’re racist,” one person said in response to Adcock’s rant.
Despite the negativity surrounding Cowboy Carter, the album has been a huge success. It debuted at No. 1, becoming Beyoncé’s eighth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.
