Emerging details on Gene Hackman‘s death confirm that two other dogs belonging to the actor and his wife were found alive at the gory scene. News of Gene Hackman’s death broke this week, after the bodies of the actor and his wife were found at their home in Santa Fe. Although a report from the Santa Fe Sheriff ruled that there were “no immediate indications of foul play,” investigations into the mysterious passing of the actor, his wife and their dog continue. At least one arrest warrant has been issued, on the grounds that the deaths were suspicious enough to warrant an investigation.
Although results of the post-mortem investigations conducted on the deceased have not emerged, the working theory remains the possibility of poisoning from a gas leak. Toxic gases like carbon monoxide have been at the forefront of the investigations into Gene Hackman’s death. According to reports, first responders at the scene took the necessary precautions to prevent a potential exposure to any toxic substances. The warrant affidavit confirmed that the New Mexico Gas Co. and the Fire Department tested the surrounding gas lines and the home respectively for signs of leaks, carbon monoxide, or poisoning, with no obvious signs detected.
Suspected Gas Leak Theorized in Hackman’s Death

Notwithstanding, officials have doubled down on the gas leak theory, insisting they were not ruling anything out pending autopsy results which could take up to six weeks. The gas leak theory also seems to have become a favorite amongst conspiracy theorists and fans speculating about the death of Gene Hackman and his wife and dog across the internet. This has sparked debate on social platforms like Reddit, with several aggrieved fans voicing their opinions about his possible cause of death, while debunking the possibility of it being a murder-suicide, another working theory that has thrived since Hackman’s death. One Reddit user pointed out,
“Gotta be something like carbon monoxide poisoning then.”
Another agreed, adding,
“[That’s] the only thing that makes sense to me. Given that it’s everyone and “no foul play.”
Most fans pointed out that if it were a case of murder/suicide as many have speculated since his death, then Gene Hackman’s dog may have been spared from the tragic fate. Hence, toxic gas poisoning remained the only working theory, according to them. One Reddit user noted,
“It’s got to be carbon monoxide…who kills the dog in a murder/suicide? This is very sad. He was great.”
Gene Hackman’s Dogs Rescued From Scene of Gory Deaths

Notably, recent updates on Hackman’s dogs only serve to further disprove the toxic gas theory. Reports show that aside from the dog that died along with Gene Hackman and his wife, two others survived whatever may have caused their death. One of the healthy dogs was reportedly found running loose on the property, while the other was found near Hackman’s wife, Betsy Arakawa, 64. Meanwhile, they discovered the dead dog lying in a closet in the bathroom, about 10-15 feet from Arakawa’s body.
A new press release from the Santa Fe Sheriff’s office confirmed that the surviving dogs were healthy, and in the safe hands of authorities, per TMZ. The Santa Fe County Animal Control is reportedly in talks with Hackman’s family to see to the safety of the rescued dogs. The safe conditions of these dogs make it unlikely they inhaled the toxic gas that purportedly killed Hackman, his wife and the third canine. For one, these dogs, like their owners, could have been exposed to the same conditions, which could have led to their deaths, just like the third. Then there’s the pills and signs of mummification discovered on the two deceased humans, which may suggest the involvement of a third party. This glaring fact leaves the death of Gene Hackman and his wife shrouded deeper in mystery.
