Genshin Impact Bond of Life, Explained: What Does Bond of Life Do?

A must know if you want to master Arlecchino’s playstyle.

A key mechanic in Arlecchino’s kit as well as one of the most unwelcome effects for those not using her in Genshin Impact, Bond of Life can turn even the most sturdy DPS into an easy kill and force you to push your healer to their limit when in do or die situations. But how exactly does the effect work? Here’s a full overview of the Bond of Life effect in Genshin Impact.

How Does the Bond of Life Effect Work in Genshin Impact

How Bond of Life is showcased in Genshin Impact.

Once applied to a character in Genshin Impact, Bond of Life will absorb the healing done to them until cleared. When the healing done is higher than the applied Bond of Life total, you will clear the effect and heal by the remaining amount. For example. let’s say you have been afflicted with a Bond of Life equal to 20% of your max HP and then heal for 30%. In this case, you will only actively heal 10% HP.

As you can check out below, once they are affected by it, the Bond of Life percentage applied to your character will be showcased by a red bar surrounding their overall health. The effect can stack, with each increasing its HP lock percentage.

Differently from Corrosion, which I can say is the harmful effect I hate the most in the game, Bond of Life won’t damage your health over time.

How to Counter Bond of Life

If not using a character who thrives by having a high Bond of Life amount โ€”aka Arlecchinoโ€” you can easily counter the debuff by using characters capable of providing constant or massive healing. My best picks for the slot would be Furina, Barbara, Kokomi, and Bennett.

All Opponents Who Apply The Effect

Apart from the upcoming Arlecchino World Boss, the Frost and Wind Operatives are the only enemies in Genshin Impact who can apply the effect to your party. But given how Arlecchnio, as well, as according to early leaks, Clorinde and Sigewinne, will have kits surrounding it, it’s safe to assume that more enemies capable of applying the debuff will surface as part of the game’s upcoming areas.

Now that you know everything you need to know regarding the effect and so that you can awaken the full potential of the fourth of the Fatui Harbingers from the get-go, don’t forget to also check out the best Arlecchino build in Genshin Impact.

You can play Genshin Impact on PS5, PS4, PC, and mobile devices.
