A bit like Pokemon, Karens typically come in all different shapes and sizes. Some can be racist, while others can be sneaky and nasty. On the other side of the spectrum, though? A few can even be anti-Karens that buck the traditional stereotype completely. Today, however, we have a Georgia Karen who may be a little overly demanding, but her main concern may actually be on point. That’s right, today’s Karen may actually be in the right.
The video, first posted on @iamtopnotchh’s Instagram earlier this week, appears to take place in Georgia, as revealed by the Karen’s vehicle number plate at the end of the footage. At the beginning of the clip, we briefly see the OP, along with an amusing, “Yup, that’s me, you’re probably wondering how I ended up in this situation“, which is a snippet of dialogue lifted from the opening of 2020’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
Next, we see the Karen proper. Pulling up in a black Kia car with her window down, the elderly woman fires, “Oh, you ain’t the motorcycle riding chick?” Off camera, it sound like the OP is with her kid, and they must be riding a motorcycle without a helmet on. Crucially, this is what the Karen is concerned about. “What’s wrong with you?” enquires the confused mom.
After taking a deep breath, the Karen gets right down to business. “Well, number one, I used to be a paramedic. I’ve seen too many children’s heads on the ground because their literal parents forgot to put on helmets. Put it on so I don’t have to come here and clear up your child’s bloody head, okay?” explains the Karen, curtly. “Do you know how many kids I’ve seen? That’s because of stupid parents.”
“Sounds like you should mind yo own business. Mind yo business.” the OP responds coolly. The Karen does not look too impressed by this response, however, and looks visibly shocked. “No,” exclaims the Karen, though it’s hard to discern what she says exactly, but it sounds like “Not with children.”
In a surprise twist, the OP then starts to become the Karen of the video as she starts getting personal with her cutting remarks. “Go see your dentist,” expresses the mom, rudely. “I don’t have to do anything.” replies the elderly woman. After some back and forth, the altercation devolves into the OP repeatedly asking the Karen, “Where’s your children? Where’s your children? Do your children come see you? No, they don’t.” in a childish and petty manner, before the Karen drives away.
With the video spreading online, social media users largely sided with the concerned Karen on this incident. One Redditor chimed in, writing, “I mean, she definitely should be wearing a helmet.” while another added jokingly, “But that lady also definitely should be going to a dentist.” Meanwhile, a sensible commenter chipped in with, “Dental care is expensive with insurance giving not enough coverage for anything more than basic work and tend to be over priced and vary dentist to dentist all with different plans of action. Shame her for her attitude not her dental issues. 🤷♀️” A fourth remark came in, stating, “Karen is correct. Every kid should be wearing a helmet.”
Taken as a whole, it’s fair to say that today’s Karen does have a valid point because her worries seemingly come from a place of genuine concern. On top of that, the OP is actually breaking the law. See, in the state of Georgia, it’s a legal requirement to wear protective headgear and eyewear when riding a motorcycle, regardless of age. Personally, I feel like the OP is being needlessly rude to the valid concerns of the Karen. Sure, the elderly woman could’ve been a little nicer about it, but in a shock twist, I side with the Karen on this one.
