On March 8, the twin brothers Qaadir and Nazier Lewis were found dead with fatal gunshot wounds at the top of Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia. They were just 19 years old, just shy of turning 20. The initial report by the GBI has ruled it a murder-suicide, but the investigation is still ongoing.
So, some suicide pact, right? Well, Yasmin Brawner—the twins’ aunt—doesn’t buy the findings. You see, the twin brothers were 90 miles away from their original destination. The day before, they were destined for Boston to visit some friends. They even still had their plane tickets on hand.
And this is the crux of Yasmin’s problem with the GBI’s murder-suicide theory. What in the world were they doing 90 miles away from their destination? According to Yasmin, hiking wasn’t something Nazier and Qaadir did, let alone know about Bell Mountains. “They don’t know nothing about Hiawassee Georgia,” said Yasmin.
Secondly, Yasmin and her family don’t agree the twins would’ve hurt one another. They were known to be inseparable. “I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before,” said Rahim to WXIA-TV. They got along so well, they had dreams of opening their own clothing line.
Many commenters agree, insisting the entire situation is rather odd. Others aren’t as compassionate.
“Fact is they were involved in criminal behavior, and they met their demise because of it.” It’s unclear what “criminal behavior” this commenter was eluding to.
“Everything I’ve read about these young men indicates that their death needs to be investigated further.”
“This makes me sick. Those boys were good people and getting somewhere in life. I’m not understanding how someone can just take two males.“
Some have even went as low as to attack the family for starting a GoFundMe for Nazier and Qaadir’s funeral.
“they had a huge support system according to family, but the aunt has wasted no time setting up a go fund me account so strangers can pay for the funeral.“
“Tired of go fund me ….families have handled this as part of life since man began. Why now in last 4 years are people begging for money for some outrageous requests. $50K $100K for burial or celebrations of life events. R kidding no one needs to spend that kind of money“
Funerals are exceedingly expensive, so it’s understandable to ask for help. Luckily, the Brawner’s GoFundMe was successful. Hopefully, they’ll find closure in the GBI’s investigation.
