A woman in Douglasville, Georgia, took a dessert shop employee’s compliment the wrong way and decided to leavea 1-star review online. The review in question was gigantic, and many considered it more of a meltdown rather than a nuanced review.
The interaction was shared on TikTok by the dessert shop itself, Jewel’s Treats and More. A welcoming place, the establishment said that one of her employees, a woman, had complimented a customer, the angry Georgia woman in question.
The drama started when the customer asked for a “Sneaker Combo Banana Pudding.” The employee, Tina, thinking that the item had sold out already, exclaimed, “Aww foot!” Apparently, the customer took offense to that, but another employee, the female employee’s son, explained that Tina’s reaction was due to the possibility of the flavor being unavailable.
Tina then approached the customer, as she normally does, and tried to compliment and connect with her. While her orders were being prepared, the employee told her she looked pretty, noticing she was wearing sorority colors. She also asked if she had just left a meeting.
While the exact conversation couldn’t be heard clearly, the male employee was eyeing both women from a distance. Things got heated, and the customer, at one point, said, “You know what? The way you handled that is exactly like an AKA would handle it,” referring to the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.
Scathing Review Blasted Online
The customer then left a jarring 1-star review, detailing her side of the story. She claimed that Tina had been disrespectful when she revealed she was an AKA, and that the employee’s behavior is “why I chose to be a Zeta,” again referring to another sorority. Apparently, Tina had questioned the customer’s decision to become a Zeta.
The review, rather than focusing on the food itself, went on a full rant against the AKAs, calling the Georgia employee a bully and calling her lucky for not undergoing the “brown paper bag test.” This discriminatory practice compared Black people’s skin color to a paper bag to determine what privileges they deserved, which was prevalent in universities and colleges during the 20th century.
Users online blasted the customer’s rudeness and outrageous review, calling her out for completely misrepresenting the whole interaction.
“She wrote a whole fan fiction,” one user penned. Another wrote, “Some people are just miserable and try their best to tear down a Black business.” A third added, “I support these restaurants fighting back these bad reviews and rolling back the tape.”
The customer’s review was unsuccessful, and it appears that new customers will flood the Georgia dessert shop. Hopefully, the banana pudding will be amazing.
