Earlier today Sony Pictures UK posted the international trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Next month the sequel title will premiere, after numerous delays due to the pandemic. At this point though, the film is on track for a smooth release around Thanksgiving of this year. It has already been screened at CinemaCon and this year’s New York Comic-Con.
The Excitement for Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Ghostbusters: Afterlife centers around Egon Spengler’s legacy, and how his family is building up the legacy of his life. Fans are already calling the film to be the biggest Easter egg fest, considering that Jason Reitman is the director of this film. Ghostbusters: Afterlife stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, and many others. The Ghostbusters: Afterlife cast is also expecting to see the classics such as Annie Potts, Bill Murray, Sigourney Weaver, and more.
The film is about a single mom (played by Carrie Coon) and her two kids living in a small town. As they arrive at the seemingly normal farmhouse, they all uncover the dark and supernatural secrets hiding within. The trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife showcases many familiar faces like the Ecto-1, the Min Stay-Puft Marshmallow Men, and the Terror dogs. As Reitman says in an interview with Entertainment Weekly,
I wanted to make a movie for my father. And I wanted to make a movie for my daughter. Ghostbusters is one of those rare franchises that doesn’t belong to the filmmakers anymore. We wanted to make a movie that had mystery, had laughs, had you singing a theme song as you walked out of the movie theater. A film you could bring your families to.”
Outside of showcasing its main cast, the trailer also provides teasers for scenes involving many of the ghosts that the kids will have to fight. Unlike the previous trailer, which features brief appearances and callbacks, this trailer seems to focus more on the newer generation. The trailer also puts more emphasis on the story’s apocalyptic angle, suggesting that the plot could get a lot heavier.
Combined with this memorable and funny cast, Ghostbusters: Afterlife looks to be one that fans of the original franchise can enjoy.
