While people won awards last night, not everyone was a winner. The one agreement among many about this year’s Golden Globes was that host Jo Koy did not deliver. Speaking on GMA3: What You Need to Know, the comedian has responded to the poor reviews of his hosting duties and monologue. While he thought it was “fun,” but “tough,” and it “hurt” when it fell flat.
CBS posted the full monologue so you can judge for yourself as we have below:

Many of the jokes were not well received or prepared. Talking to Good Morning America, the Golden Globes host was hired days before the outing, giving him little time to prepare material. Writing the monologue was a “crash course” that, despite not resulting in something that resonated with the crowd, he said that he “loved what I did.” The reception made it painful, but he still holds some positive feelings about the experience.
I had fun. You know, it was a moment that I’ll always remember. It’s a tough room. It was a hard job, I’m not going to lie…I’d be lying if [I said] it doesn’t hurt. I hit a moment there where I was like, ‘Ah.’ Hosting is just a tough gig. Yes, I’m a stand-up comic but that hosting position it’s a different style. I kind of went in and did the writer’s thing. We had 10 days to write this monologue. It was a crash course. I feel bad, but I got to still say I loved what I did.

Many jokes throughout the award show targeted celebrities attending, which can happen with playful jabs. In this case, the jokes were not well received. One of those jokes was at Taylor Swift when he asked about “the big difference between the Golden Globes and NFL,” he answered that “we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” When the camera went to the singer, she seemed unenthusiastic as she took a sip of her drink.
The poor reception to the joke on the musician did not go unfazed by the Golden Globes host. It was one of the more regrettable moments for him as he said that it was “a little flat” and that “it was a weird joke.” His attempt was to poke fun at the NFL’s use of “cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that.” He admitted that it didn’t come out that way.”
Overall, the Golden Globes host said that he had an “off night.” Not every joke that he had written was his, as he sat down with a team to come up with the material. To the vocal critical crowd, he said to “slow down” as he “wrote some of these, and they are the ones you are laughing at.”
The Golden Globes aired last night (January 7) with big-time winners from major shows and movies, like Succession, Beef, The Bear, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and more.
