It is time to go back to Hell. Amazon has renewed Good Omens for season 3, which will also be the show’s final run. The adaptation of the novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett was originally set as a limited series but became so successful that it managed to get renewed twice.
The series follows an exiled angel and book dealer, Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), and the demon Crowley (David Tennant). The unlikely friendship turns into an alliance to keep Earth safe from the havoc caused by Heaven and Hell.
Good Omens Renewed for Third and Final Season
Unlike some other adaptations of Gaiman’s work, the series was created by him. He serves as a writer, co-showrunner, and producer. The first season went live in 2019 and was renewed for another outing in 2021. Due to the hefty cliffhanger at the last season’s finale, fans suspected that we would get Good Omens season 3. The author confirmed that it would happen and was “planned and plotted.” Due to the now-concluded SAG and WGA strikes, he could not move forward with it until recently.
The two leads are joined by Jon Hamm, Miranda Richardson, Doon Mackinchan, Nina Sosanya, Gloria Obianyo, Frances McDormand, Sam Taylor Buck, Maggie Service, Daniel Mays, and Sian Brooke.
Not much is known about Good Omens season 3, but we do know some changes will happen behind the camera. Douglas Mackinnon, who served as co-showrunner and directed all 12 episodes so far, will not return. He confirmed on Instagram after posting a set picture with a message about the struggles in the industry. Fans recognized the set photo, and when the Amazon series was brought up, he confirmed his departure.
Production will begin soon in Scotland.
