Karoline Leavitt is leaving the White House, and while Donald Trump has showered his departing press secretary with praise, parts of the internet are practically holding the door open.
As reported by Sky News, the US president announced that Leavitt, 28, will step down at the end of August to spend more time with her two young children and family.
Trump called her “one of my most trusted aides” and said he “totally understand[s] and respect[s]” the decision. He also declared her “one of the best White House Press Secretaries in the History of the Office” and said she would continue as one of his top outside advisers.
Leavitt struck an equally emotional note, describing the role as “the honor and adventure of a lifetime.”
But the farewell was considerably less affectionate on Reddit’s World News forum.
Beneath a post about her departure in the r/USNEWS community, one commenter offered the brutally concise verdict: “Good riddance.”
Another echoed it, writing: “Good riddance. Can’t believe our taxpayer dollars were spent paying her salary to lie to the American people.”
That accusation was a recurring theme among critics, who repeatedly attacked Leavitt’s credibility and combative performances at the podium.
Trump Says Farewell, Reddit Says Something Else
One commenter sarcastically wrote: “She was fantastic at her job. Being a soulless liar with no remorse, I wonder who’s next.”
Another suggested Leavitt was less skilled at deception than at sticking to the administration’s message, saying she was “proficient at delivering talking points.”
Even among those celebrating her exit, however, there was an uncomfortable question hanging over the thread: who comes next?
One Reddit user warned: “I mean sure… but I’m terrified of whoever her replacement will be.” Another took the same concern further, arguing that celebrating too quickly could prove premature if Trump chooses an even more aggressive successor.
Leavitt said her decision followed her return from maternity leave in July. She explained that she could not be the mother she wanted to be while also giving the press secretary role the “constant time, energy, and attention” it demands.
She nevertheless insisted she is not disappearing from politics. Leavitt said she plans to remain a “vocal advocate” for Trump, the Republican Party and the MAGA movement.
Trump has not yet announced her replacement.
That means the internet’s victory lap may prove short-lived. Leavitt is leaving the podium, but the politics she defended are not leaving with her, and whoever steps behind that lectern next will inherit both the job and an audience already sharpening its knives.
