Ryan Elijah defeated incumbent Rep. Cory Mills in the Republican primary for Florida’s 7th Congressional District on Tuesday. According to the post and subsequent reports, Mills had cast a key vote against stripping Rep. Ilhan Omar of her committee assignments. Online users reacted after the results linked the primary loss to that earlier House vote, with many commenting on the outcome in Florida.

On-screen text displays Ryan Elijah at “46.9%” with a checkmark and “Difference: 7,732,” incumbent Cory Mills at “34.4%,” and Sarah Ulrich at “10.5%,” with “99% IN.” In the clip, the moderator states, “NBC News projects that broadcaster Ryan Elijah has defeated Republican congressman Cory Mills in the primary in Florida.”

According to the accompanying post, Mills “was the deciding vote to protect Ilhan Omar from being stripped of her committees” and had been unseated by Elijah. The video focuses solely on the election graphics and does not show earlier campaign events or additional context.

The Primary Clip Sparks a Round of Online Takes

Some users expressed relief, with one writing “Thank god. We would’ve lost that seat to the dems.” 

Others focused on the reported vote involving Omar, commenting, “Good. Now the House can boot Omar because they won’t have to protect RINO Mills” and “Excellent! Cory was the deciding vote against censuring Ilhan Omar! He deserved to go…RINO.” 

Additional responses included “Nice move, Ryan! Finally a seat that doesn’t need a censure” and “Bye bye @CoryMillsFL.”
