Google continues its initiative to squeeze Stadia into gamer’s homes by now developing titles for the controversial platform.

This new studio will open up in Playa Vista, California, headed by Shannon Studstill, who is the former head of Sony Santa Monica (God of War). This news came via a blog post from the head of Stadia James Raymond.

“The new Playa Vista studio will focus on delivering exclusive games, using new gameplay mechanics, creative ways to play together and unique interaction models that we’re just starting to explore. While we’re not ready to share specific game plans yet, rest assured we are listening to what gamers want and adding our own Stadia twists to create new IP and experiences,” Raymond said.

The new studio lines up with the plan to bolster Stadia’s library. Word came earlier this year that over 120 games in 2020, with 10 exclusives being released in the first half.

Google and Nintendo Might Be Cousins

Other platforms such as Epic Store offers developers incentives to either develop or bring their games exclusively to the platforms. Third-party devs have been hesitant toward Stadia from Google’s history of dropping projects that don’t meet expectations. This is a possible futureStadia could fall under if things don’t turn around.

The platform’s lineup consists of titles older titles like Red Dead 2 or ones out for months such as Borderlands 3. There are new games confirmed to be coming to Google Stadia in 2020, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Watch Dogs Legion, and Marvel’s Avengers, to name a few. If these will arrive day and date with other versions is still up in the air.

Stadia is currently living on its own niche island, similar to the Wii U in 2013. It gets visitors (third party devs) that swing by ever so often but is mainly isolated. As the Playa Vista studio gets to work creating new experiences to expand that Stadia island, we’ll keep you posted.

Do you ever plan to get Google Stadia? What’s your favorite Sony Santa Monica game? Leave a comment!
