GTA 6’s Publisher is Scared of Roblox, Promises to Deliver More Value With Its Games

Not the competition we were expecting

Even if it isn’t out yet, many believe that GTA 6 will be the game of the decade, and well, there’s no reason to think otherwise. However, that doesn’t mean the game is without competition. According to a recent report from GTA 6‘s publisher, Take-Two Interactive, the company is worried about one game in particular: Roblox. While many might not see Roblox on the same level as other recent AAA or even indie games, the truth is that Roblox is a titan in the industry, which makes the fear more than justified.

Take-Two Interactive Is ‘Running Scared’ From Roblox

The information comes from Take-Two Interactive’s recent financial quarter call and an interview with The Game Business. During the presentation, the publisher confirmed that GTA 6 is still coming in May of 2026, so we can definitely rest easy on that part. However, one thing that stood out is how Take-Two Interactive sees Roblox as a threat, even with GTA 6 on the horizon.

The Game Business asked Strauss Zelnick, Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, about what younger generations are playing and how they are playing, citing the “impressive numbers Roblox is delivering.” To which Zelnick answered:

We do not rest on our laurels. We don’t believe that success is guaranteed. We are looking over our shoulders. We are running scared. I am fond of saying that arrogance is the enemy of continued success. We know that in the next two, three, five, ten years… there is going to be an array of big new titles, and maybe even some new formats.

While Zelnick doesn’t mention Roblox explicitly, saying the company is “running scared” after hearing about this platform’s number is key.

Roblox might not be the most visually appealing game out there, but it provides something that almost no other game does: user-generated content. This is something we know GTA 6 will approach eventually, and it now makes even more sense as to why it will do it.

If we look at GTA Online, it has kept the fifth installment afloat for over a decade. However, its content is mainly limited to what the players can do with the missions inside the game. If GTA 6 were to take a Roblox approach, it could become an unbeatable platform for many years to come.

While we’re still months away from seeing what Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games have planned for the sixth mainline installment of the GTA series, this should be a wake-up call for most developers and studios out there. One of the giants in the industry fears one of the platforms that many older gamers tend to dismiss. And instead of pursuing the played-out battle passes and seasonal updates, it is trying to compete against them.
