I don’t know about you, but I obsess over packing for vacation, and I’m worse when I’m leaving. The idea of leaving something behind haunts me for a few days when I’m home. Not to mention I hate the idea of leaving an Airbnb, or any lodge, in disrepair or full of garbage. However, a Texas couple who rent out their Airbnb revealed it’s pretty common. With almost 100 videos titled “what guests left behind in our Airbnb,” they’ve seen it all. Their most recent montage really takes the cake!
TIkTok user Kaiser—@sopapilla89k—shared a video where she and her husband do a walk-around of their Airbnb after guests check out. The video starts with excitement as you can hear the wife calling out, “A cake! Someone left behind their cake!” It’s one giant cake, with an entire section eaten but the rest left virtually untouched. She then says, “I’ve tried so many cake flavors recently.” Now that makes me wonder: How often does that happen?
As they walk around the Airbnb, they find an assortment of out-of-place things. They find sunglasses, a straw hat, friendship bracelet, a helium tank with water balloons, and more. Even worse, one of their paintings is missing from the wall (with no explanation as to where it went). They also discovered somebody punched their John Wayne cardboard cutout, as his face is bent inward. She claims, “People just keep punching him. I understand why, but f**k.”
To me, it’s actually quite shocking people wouldn’t leave with everything they came with. I’d pack dust if it meant making it easier for the cleaning crew. It looks like the recent guests left without doing a once-over on the place. I mean, who leaves a literal cake in the refrigerator? Unless, of course, you didn’t want to take it with you.
Thankfully, others feel the same way I do. As one commenter asked, “Am I the only one who leaves their Airbnb literally spotless?” No, random commenter. I’m particular about looking in every nook and cranny before I leave a rental to make sure all of my things are coming with me.
Another commenter joked the guests would call and say, “Hey sorry we left in such a rush and we forgot our cake. Mind if we come by and pick it up?” But, it’s safe to say this whole situation is finder’s keepers since they checked out. And, well, who would want a days-old cake, anyway? Think of the cake as a free meal.
