Hacker Says He Cracked Major Denuvo Game, But Pirates Turn on Him Instead: ‘Entitled People are Weird’

Gamer entitlement is harder to crack than Denuvo, it seems

For years, Denuvo has been the PC gaming community’s most hated piece of software. On one hand, it’s considered a boogeyman behind every stutter and frame drop. Pirates, on the other hand, have been waging wars on it because the DRM prevents them from playing new games for free. So when veteran hacker momo5502 announced Black Myth: Wukong‘s Denuvo had finally been cracked and bypassed, many expected a public release. But all they got is chaos.

On X, momo5502 publicly announced, “In the past weeks, I have managed to reliably bypass Denuvo with the help of Sogen and other techniques. Finally, I can move on and focus on new projects 😂.” Momo5502 then linked curious fans to his Reverse Engineering Denuvo in Hogwarts Legacy research video for those interested in his method of cracking the DRM. That, however, became fuel for internet drama.

Commenters on Reddit and X quickly turned hostile, accusing him of showing off without delivering anything.

“Your work has no value until you release the game,” replied @Sinsere736 on momo5502’s X post.

“‘found the cure to cancer’ but not for you kid ahhh,” snarked @subhachintak_np. Others also mocked him as a ‘poser’ for refusing to release the crack.

“So he just basically wanted to brag about it and get his 15mins of ‘fame’ cuz he did a denuvo bypass,” wrote Alucaricardo on Reddit, earning 2,200 upvotes.

“Report him to Denuvo so they can stomp his ass,” added Weak-Cow-2891.

Momo5502 followed up by clarifying that he couldn’t share any technical details for ‘obvious reasons.’ First of all, his real name — Maurice Heumann — is public. He was previously part of the IW4X Call of Duty mod team, which drew a DMCA from Activision in 2023. Then, while bypassing and cracking software might just fall under a legal grey area, per se, distributing one is definitely out of the question.

“I [was] too exposed and had way too much legal trouble in the past years. sorry,” replied Heumann when he was asked if this means Black Myth: Wukong crack is coming. He also added that bypassing Wukong was just something he needed to do for his talk on Hogwarts‘ software security.

Still, not everyone was hostile. Some Redditors and X commenters defended and applauded momo5502 for his effort. Many are pointing out that he’s a developer and researcher — not a pirate. “People would still be complaining even if you gave them the game on a silver platter,” FerretExternal8233’s comment read. “Entitled people are weird.”
