This year is one of franchise revivals, and alongside Gears of War, we also have Halo making its long-awaited comeback. Now, it might not be with a new entry like E-Day, but it is bringing the installment that started it all in the form of Halo: Campaign Evolved. Now, with so many remakes lately, many might think it is only adding a few things. However, this one is making it a whole new Halo experience, which will be great for new fans, but also for veterans who experienced Master Chief’s story back in the day.
Skulls, Co-Op, and Third-Person Action
If you didn’t know, Halo: Campaign Evolved released even more gameplay clips focusing on a few aspects of the game that might feel familiar to some of us, but also new in a way.
For instance, we have Skulls returning to the game, which are modifiers that many will remember. However, it seems there are new ones this time, which will add some spice to the campaign that many know already. Speaking of adding spice, there’s also co-op mode, which, hold on to your seats, seems to have crossplay functionality, and you’ll be able to bring three other friends for some 4-player mayhem as you take out some of these iconic enemies.
And while the new visuals really change things up, some players might want a new perspective, and the studio is delivering it. One modifier allows you to change your perspective to a third-person one, which is something we never really thought would be possible for Halo, outside of driving vehicles and some animations, of course.
This third-person perspective seems to be a modifier, and while the demo only showed it on one mission, the description makes it sound like we’ll be able to use it throughout the whole campaign, which will truly make everything feel completely different, and most importantly, new.
A New Coat of Paint
And while all the above sounds excellent, we can also agree that the new visuals look superb. Many of us remember the classic style fondly, and it is always great to keep revisiting it. However, what the studio has done to bring the game back to life and enhance it with these models and textures is admirable. Yet, that’s not all of it. We also know that the UI is being worked on, making it feel more modern and easier to use for players.
Furthermore, there are other modern gameplay additions, such as improved gameplay and even better driving systems, which, despite the old-school feel to them that we all like, truly needed some rework, so it is great that this is happening, too.
The only downside for many is that there won’t be a competitive multiplayer mode at launch, but well, many are still holding on to hope as it could happen later, or that’s what many expect. Yet, if it doesn’t, Halo: Campaign Evolved is already offering several fantastic things, and a lot of replayability on top of that, which will make this legendary campaign feel equal parts nostalgic and fresh.
