The Ori series of games have been well regarded for their musical score. Now, composer Gareth Coker is lending his award-winning expertise to the Xbox Series X’s flagship launch title; Halo Infinite. Coker announced his involvement via Twitter.

I am happy to announce that I’m scoring @Halo Infinite alongside @cschweitzer https://t.co/na1tOfslPb

— Gareth Coker (@garethcoker) July 23, 2020

In addition to the Ori series, Coker has worked on Darksiders Genesis, Minecraft and Ark: Survival Evolved. His most recent work on the amazing Ori and the Will of the Wisps has been some of his best. The original score follows his philosophy of composing music that delivers on emotional weight. His stunning work has earnt him an opportunity to work on one of the most highly-anticipated games of the year.

Coker’s tweet also disclosed his collaboration with Curtis Schweitzer, a freelance composer who has worked on games such as Starbound, Interstellar Rift, and Staxel. Halo Infinite is the most high-profile game yet for Schweitzer, and it will be interesting to see how this new direction with Coker will influence the iconic Halo soundtrack that has been a staple for generations.

Martin O’Donnell is a familiar name to Halo veterans; he was responsible for Bungie’s Halo soundtracks until their relationship with Microsoft ended following the release of Halo Reach. Once 343 Industries took the reigns, Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi followed up with their work on Halos 4 and 5 respectively.

Halo Infinite

We got our first glimpse of Halo Infinite during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase earlier this week, including Coker and Schweitzer’s score. In a radical departure from Halo’s roots, the open-world design of Infinite looks to treat fans of the series with new gameplay mechanics, chief among which is a grappling hook. Read about what else Microsoft showed here.

Halo Infinite is set to launch alongside the Xbox Series X this holiday season.
