One of Halo’s biggest selling points heading into its 6th main installment is the nostalgia factor. It seems like every Xbox fan has memories of playing split screen 4-player co-op back on the original Xbox with their friends. When Halo 5 came around, many of those same fans were disappointed by the apparent misstep that was removing the option for same screen gameplay in the entry. 343 Industries has heard your pleas and will be bringing the beloved feature back for Halo Infinite.
In Halo Infinite, gamers will be able to sit side by side with up to 3 friends and play through the entire campaign on the same screen. Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President and Head of 343 Industries, Bonnie Ross, promised the inclusion of the feature back in 2017 but it was only confirmed officially today for Halo Infinite. In an interview with VentureBeat, Ross expounded on why split screen will be making its way into Halo Infinite.
Honestly, we have made mistakes along the way. The community has helped us in creating good learning experiences for us. But I think that when I look at Halo, the universe is the most important character and we are stewards of the universe. The whole team looks at this as not just our universe. It’s the fans’ universe. It is a part of our culture, this precious, precious world, and we’re responsible for taking care of it. And we want to do it right. The work that they have done, the work we’re doing on Halo Infinite is something that I am so proud.
Halo Infinite still has no release date for Xbox One or official gameplay shown so it is safe to assume that the game is far from completion. This news should give longtime fans hope that 343 is taking the future of the franchise seriously and is looking to please the hardest of hardcore Halo fans with Halo Infinite.
