Another date for movie lover’s diaries; Han Solo’s origin movie will hit the silver screen May 18th, 2018.
It used to be you had to wait a long time between Star Wars movies but now, with Mickey Mouse at the helm, we can expect a new movie almost every year. Between the numbered Episodes, Rogue One and rumours of an Obi-Wan Kenobi trilogy (set between Episodes III and IV), we’re going to have more Star Wars action than we’ll know what to do with. And now, in 2018, we’ll get to see the origins of the Galaxy’s greatest smuggler; Han Solo.
The screenplay for ‘Han Solo: when smugglers shoot first’ (not the actual title) will be written by Lawrence Kasdan; a guy many Star Wars fans hold in higher esteem than George Lucas. This is due to having been the screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back; the movie many consider the jewel in the crown of the original trilogy. When J.J Abrams took the helm of Episode VII, Lawrence was who helped him write it. His thoughts on what we can expect of young Han Solo are;
“You know, he’s younger in this [spinoff] movie and that’s fun because you have to imagine him 10 years earlier in his early 20s. What was he like before he hardened up? Before he had some setbacks? Before he put on this cynical coat? What got him there?”
