Sometimes, it feels good to be bad. Whether it’s the morally gray but humorous Deadpool or the insane but entertaining Joker, there seems to be no end of classic comic book villains that end up being more popular than their heroic counterparts. With the slew of superhero movies and their incredibly high level of popularity, it’s no wonder that Warner Bros are already planning for the next step after their upcoming Suicide Squad summer release.
And it looks like Harley Quinn is, once again, taking centre stage.

Well, to an extent that is. According to a new report from the Hollywood Reporter, a new movie pitch has been created by an as-yet-unnamed writer and subsequently snapped up by the executives for production. However, the studio is staying very tight-lipped about this new film, apart from the fact that it stars Margot Robbie AKA Harley Quinn, along with a number of other female icons from the DC’s rogues gallery, and potentially Birds of Prey and Batgirl too. These reports are, for the time being, unconfirmed by Warner Bros themselves. It appears they don’t want to quite let the bat out of the bag just yet.
Harley Quinn just the beginning
According to reports, this move was spearheaded by none other than Robbie herself, along with the mystery writer. Spurred on by her own explorations of the comic universe to learn more about Harley Quinn and her role within the Suicide Squad, Robbie quickly fell in love with multiple villainous characters and brought on wordsmith to make the pitch more concrete.
It’s understandable why Warner Bros was so quick to take them up on the idea, as it would give them the opportunity to build on the growing hype from Suicide Squad and potentially open up the DC Universe even more by introducing lesser-known villains to the masses.
It looks like TV Harley will be following in the footsteps of her video game and comic book counterparts in moving away from merely being a sidekick to the Joker, to taking her true place among the great villains of the DC universe. Fans of the Quinn can look forward to seeing her debut in Suicide Squad in August of this year.
