California Rep. Ted Lieu questioned whether President Donald Trump had received an experimental Eli Lilly drug through compassionate use. He called on the White House to disclose whether the president received such treatment.
Lieu raised the question while discussing Trump’s absence from a planned Capitol ceremony for a bipartisan housing bill.
The Democratic congressman initially focused on inflation and rising grocery, utility and housing costs. He then turned to Trump’s decision not to attend the scheduled signing.
Lieu questioned whether Trump’s absence could be connected to his health or medication.
“Is it side effects from a drug? We don’t know,” Lieu said.
Lieu also pointed to what he described as concerning signs during Trump’s public appearances. He cited difficulty staying awake, weakness in one arm and swelling in Trump’s hands.
He then referred to an unspecified report involving a prominent 79-year-old who received what Lieu described as a special experimental drug.
Lieu said the treatment was provided through compassionate use. He did not establish in his remarks that Trump was the recipient.
“The White House needs to come clean,” Lieu said.
He then asked directly whether Trump had received the Eli Lilly drug through compassionate use. “And if he did, why is that the case?” Lieu asked.

Lieu’s demand for answers in California drew arguments over medical privacy, evidence and presidential health disclosures.
One X user challenged the request directly, asking, “Have you ever heard of medical privacy?” Another questioned Lieu’s evidence, writing, “How come Ted is the only one dumb enough to keep spouting this nonsense and never provide any proof.”
A separate response drew a comparison with the previous administration. “The same people who told us Biden was ‘sharp as ever’ now want full access to Trump’s medical records so they can find…… something?” the user wrote.
Another criticized Lieu more broadly, stating, “I feel like Ted Lieu is desperately trying to elevate himself. It’s one stupid sound bite after another from him. He’s just not that relevant!”
Other users backed greater scrutiny of Trump’s health. One wrote, “Toxic trump is a piece of crap president but if he’s unwell in this personal war he started….it needs to be publicized!”
Another praised Lieu for raising the issue, writing, “Thank You Ted Lieu! You are the only man that has balls to stand up to the corrupted [expletive].”
Lieu’s central question remains unresolved in the information presented during the California showdown. His remarks did not establish whether Trump received the experimental treatment he described.
