The adaptation of one of Naughty Dog’s most successful and divisive games is moving forward. HBO has announced that Kaitlyn Dever will portray Abby in The Last of Us season 2. She will star opposite Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Now that the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes are over, the series will begin making progress as it sets its sights on a 2025 window.
In the second game, Ellie (Ramsey in the HBO series) becomes the playable protagonist. It jumps between her journey of revenge and another revenge story of Abby. The conflict leads to loss and grief and examines the cost of vengeance.

The news comes hot off the heels of the first season making a killing at various award shows. It was up for 24 nominations at the Emmys and won eight awards. It was also nominated for three Golden Globes.
Not much is known about the second season beyond this latest casting update. One thing is for sure: it will take multiple seasons to cover the second game’s story, as confirmed by co-creators Craig Mazin and Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann. Those who played the sequel will know that the second game is significantly longer and has multiple storylines as it’s arguably telling a more complex story than its predecessor.
Kaitlyn Dever joining The Last of Us is just another major role in her career that has not stopped moving upward. She started her career on TV before moving to film. Her most notable TV projects include Dopesick, Justified, and Last Man Standing. For movies, she is known for Detroit, Booksmart, No One Will Save You, and Rosaline.
Coming off the announcement, Druckmann welcomed Kaitlyn Dever to The Last of Us “fam.” He wrote on X, formerly Twitter, that he was “stoked to collaborate” with her again. She starred in Uncharted 4, her only video game credit.
