Anger sparked on social media last night. It was spotted last night (December 11) that HBO removed Watchmen from Max, but the company has been adamant that it was due to a glitch. The streaming service corrected the problem by putting the limited series led by Regina King back in its place.
HBO Sources Say It Was a Glitch That Removed Watchmen From Max
In a report from Vulture, it confirmed that the source of the problem was a glitch. It certainly was concerning as Warner Bros. Discovery has been removing plenty of its popular shows and movies from the platform. Last year, it removed once successful shows, like Westworld, following its cancelation after four seasons.
While Watchmen has been reinstated on Max, it started up a furious reaction from fans on social media. People were posting about their love for the limited series, making jokes about the situation, and bringing up its importance, from its Emmy wins to its opening of the 1921 Tulsa massacre.
Watchmen hit HBO Max in 2019 with great success. Created by Damon Lindelof (Lost), it followed the comic over 30 years later. A group of white supremacist terrorists with Rorschach masks in honor of the deceased superhero are planning something big. The series follows a group of police and superheroes working to uncover the mystery of what is being planned. It starred King, Jeremy Irons, Andrew Howard, Lois Gossett Jr., Tim Blake Nelson, Hong Chau, Don Johnson, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
Strategies have changed for Warner Bros. regarding its streaming service. While HBO is still focusing on its quality TV shows like what it did with Game of Thrones and Watchmen, it rebranded the streaming service to Max. It blended the prestige TV the company has been known for with Discovery’s catalog, including its reality TV shows. It has also been licensing its shows and movies to other platforms, like Netflix and Tubi.
