A video out of Harris County, Texas, has ignited widespread outrage this week after a white man was filmed verbally and physically assaulting a Black woman during what began as a routine post-collision exchange. The woman started recording after pulling into a gas station to address the minor crash. What followed, however, was anything but routine.
The video opens with the man furiously accusing her of attempting to “hit and run,” though she calmly insists she was the one struck and had merely pulled over to sort out the matter responsibly. As he paces beside his Jeep Mojave, he’s heard on the phone with police, frantically demanding officers come to the scene while continuing to accuse her of wrongdoing. Moments later, his rant turns openly racist as he calls her the N-word. When she responds in kind with a racial insult of her own, the man spits directly in her face.
The shocking act of aggression was quickly condemned online. The woman’s attorney, Dr. Candice Matthews, confirmed the man (identified as Ronald Gorham, an Army veteran) was arrested by Harris County Sheriff’s deputies soon after the incident via Instagram.
“Here’s Ronald Gorham being arrested after calling my client the N-word and spitting on her yesterday! This disgusting act will not be tolerated — we are pushing for this to be prosecuted as a HATE CRIME under Texas law,” Matthews wrote in a statement posted to Instagram. “This kind of racial violence and disrespect toward our Black community will be exposed every single time.”
The video has sparked commentary ranging from anger to disbelief to dark humor.
Reddit user u/inkedmom1308 summed up the general mood:
“Can you imagine being a grey-haired grandpa and you can’t control your emotions like a child?! That’s embarrassing.”
Others were quick to point out Gorham’s hypocrisy and criminal background. User u/lolas_coffee noted, “He’s got 2 arrest warrants. Just another MAGA. They are the shit stains on humanity.” Another commenter, u/atatassault47, added incredulously, “He called the police while having 2 arrest warrants out for him? lmfao.”
One of the top-voted remarks, from u/fingers, cut straight to the irony:
“Army veteran who hates America.”
Another comment, now widely shared across platforms, captured the absurdity of the moment:
“Imagine crashing into someone and still thinking you’re the victim.”
Community Outrage and Calls for Accountability
According to Matthews, a press conference will be held soon to discuss the case and potential hate crime charges under Texas law. Community activists have also rallied behind the victim, praising her composure throughout the ordeal.
User u/Fun_Marionberry_8219 wrote, “Glad she kept the camera on him. She was calmer than most people would be.”
Even among the humor and sarcasm of the Reddit thread, there’s a through-line of exhaustion—a collective weariness at seeing yet another example of unprovoked racial hostility captured on camera.
“Just a day in Texas,” one commenter wrote flatly.
While Gorham’s arrest has been confirmed, no official court date has been announced. Matthews has made clear her intent to push prosecutors to classify the assault as a hate crime, citing the racial slur and physical aggression as clear evidence of bias motivation.
The incident adds to a growing list of racially charged confrontations across the U.S. caught on video, raising uncomfortable questions about who gets believed in traffic disputes—and how quickly some people’s tempers turn to racial hatred when challenged.
