One usually shouldn’t expect to get threatened by cops after doing god’s work, so to speak. However, one philanthropist and YouTuber in Sacramento, California, was promptly evicted from his spot on his homeless feeding program while he was still feeding homeless people in the area. The incident has since sparked outrage over the cop’s heartlessness, though some also argued in the law enforcer’s defense.
The clip above is a short snippet posted to Reddit (and has since gone viral) and is part of YouTuber Kr3w Kali’s mission to feed the homeless, mostly all over the state of California. The clip captures Kr3w Kali’s homeless feeding mission around 1.5 hours in, right at the moment a cop saw them and decided to break up the entire operation.
According to the cop who stopped Kr3w Kali’s feeding program, some of the homeless people who were lining up for the food were blocking the street. Apparently, the street needs to be wide for the cops’ cars:
“You shouldn’t be able to park yourself right there either because obviously, when we’re driving through here with our lights and sirens [we] need to be able to get through here. So I’m gonna ask you to move your stuff,” according to the cop
When one of the homeless women in the wheelchair questioned the cops’ decision, the cop responded, “Why didn’t you come an hour ago? It’s way past dinner time.” Kr3w Kali feared that he might get a parking ticket, so he had no choice but to pack up and move immediately upon the cop’s insistence. Some viewers, however, pointed out that the cops and their cars were able to pass through just fine the first time.
“That’s the lamest excuse ever” says to a Reddit user on another thread regarding the cops
“What I don’t understand is how they are complaining about that, but there are 2 other cars in frame that are parked on the side of the street.”
“Nothing was getting blocked off, they were just making things up. They pulled through. No problems. I guess we got kicked out by the cops. This is the first time this happened,” according to Kr3w Kali himself
Thankfully, Kr3w Kali was able to resume his feeding program using the trunk of his car as a table and giving out most of the food that was left behind. For the record, he served out 100 pounds of beef ribs despite intervention from the police.
Some Communities are Torn on the Matter
On Kr3w Kali’s YouTube channel, most of the comments were against the police, with many believing that it was just a power trip. Some were even disgusted at the cops’ behavior, questioning why the homeless woman in the wheelchair didn’t come earlier for dinner. Apparently, an alleged cop even sided with Kr3w Kali:
“As an officer myself, some things are just worth over looking and leaving alone. But in the case you do have to act, there is no reason to be an asshole to people. Pardon my language. His attitude is garbage which in turn makes him garbage as a cop. It takes no effort at all to treat the public with respect and kindness. Keep doing what you are doing, young brother. Way to stand up for yourself and the people you served like this cop should have. Much respect,” says a YouTube user and alleged police officer
“Those cops should be ashamed of themselves. That’s 100% power trip.”
“Homeless encampments for miles and officer doofy is like ‘you can’t park here'”
However, people in other online communities somehow defended the cops’ actions, citing possible lawsuits that could arise from what Kr3w Kali did, never mind the fact that the cops’ primary reason for dismantling the feeding program was their supposed right-of-way in the street.
“The set up is dangerous, if anything bad happens it’s a lawsuit. Guy needs to find a suitable place. Says a lot that they can’t set up at the shelter anymore. No one’s hating on charity, but no one wants the liability of it being set up poorly and creating a hazard.”
“This might come as heartless, but if you don’t do this in an organised manner, you might actively hurt people. I’ve seen my fair share of scumbags, just because somebody is seemingly doing something humanitarian and maybe even hides behind this to get sympathy points, doesn’t mean they can’t be wrong.”
