Henry Cavill, who played Superman over the course of three DCEU movies so far, has reportedly walked away from the iconic role.
This news comes from The Hollywood Reporter. Cavill was negotiating to make a cameo appearance in Shazam! before talks began to break down. Now, it appears that things have gotten so toxic that other potential Superman appearances are now in jeopardy.
THR had some conflicting sources on why Cavill is exiting the role. One source told the site that the deal fell apart due to scheduling issues with another stating that Cavill was already attached to The Witcher Netflix series prior to talks.
According to the report, WB is focusing on the upcoming Supergirl film, which will be an origin story. Along with that, the studio isn’t expected to develop another Man of Steel solo movie for several years. A studio source told THR that:
“Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run your have to look at new actors,”
It is important to note that Warner Bros. has not confirmed or denied this report. However, Dany Garcia (Cavill’s agent) took to Twitter to respond:

If this rumor does turn out to be true, Henry Cavill will join Justice League co-star Ben Affleck (who is rumored to be leaving his role as Batman behind) in turning in his cape for good. As it stands right now, the DCEU is in total turmoil with Affleck and Cavill leaving the connected universe. THR was also told that WB is attempting to “hit a reset button with the DC universe, steering its ship slowly into another direction.”.
