A woman in New York City, New York, has been continuously tormented by strange and haunting sounds at her apartment, which appear at random. While her clips shared online have gone viral, many are worried about her and the building’s safety.
The clip in question was shared on TikTok by Selina Hsiao. The second part of the series, the clip, which has garnered more than 250K likes and millions of views, shows Selina reacting to the horrifying noise that surrounds her entire New York apartment.
According to her, the troubling, creaking sound had been going on for the entire night. At 9 a.m. of the following day, the noise continued.
“I just feel like the whole house is crumbling, and it’s getting worse and worse,” Selina said. “So, I don’t think this is anywhere near normal.”
In a follow-up video, the New York woman explained that, when she initially moved in, the strange noises weren’t there. However, around September, she began hearing the haunting sounds, which began to change over time.
Management explained to Selina that this was “normal” for a “high-rise building in New York.” Apparently, the building’s swaying during high winds and the damping system keeping it balanced are what are making the strange noises. Selina added that the building was only two years old and she was never warned about it when she moved in.
“When I visited the apartment, I took like three house tours, and they never mentioned anything about this,” she explained. “It kinda feels like a fraud, renting this apartment to me.“
Concerned Reactions
Many users reacted to the terrifying sounds with humor, wondering if the New York woman lives in a boat in the sea or if the house has sleep apnea. However, many more were really concerned about her safety, believing that the building could potentially collapse.
“Ma’am, please look up Surfside building collapse & pack your bags before it’s too late,” one user commented. Another one said, “It’s fine. The building is settling before it falls down.” A third one added, “Those sounds are completely normal, before a catastrophic event.”
While the management will send someone over to check on the source of the sound, possibly tear down a wall in the process, she still believes something is terribly wrong. Hopefully, the users’ prediction will not turn into a grim omen.
