Jimmy Kimmel’s Time on His Late Night Show May End Soon
Late-night television has been a staple of American entertainment for decades, with hosts becoming household names and creating enduring legacies. Jimmy Kimmel is one of such familiar faces who has warmed their way into the hearts of late-night television fans. The comedian has hosted the Jimmy Kimmel Late Night Talk show for over 20 years, and his days on the show could be numbered. During a recent chat with the LA Times, Kimmel hinted at leaving the show after his contract expires.
“I think this is my final contract. I hate to even say it because everyone’s laughing at me now — each time I think that and then it turns out to be not the case,” he said.
The 56-year-old added that he still had a little more than two years in his contract, “which seemed like enough time.”
Jimmy Kimmel Recalls Previously Thinking of Leaving the Show
This isn’t the first time the icon has considered quitting late-night television. Jimmy Kimmel said the thought of leaving the show also crossed his mind while preparing for his Academy Awards hosting gig. He recalled that he became tired while going through scripts and rewriting pitch ideas and began dozing off. At that point, Kimmel revealed he couldn’t wait to leave.
“In those moments, I think, ‘I cannot wait until my contract is over,'” he said.
However, Kimmel admitted he would reconsider after taking a break.
“But then, I take the summer off or I go on strike, and you start going, ‘Yeah, I miss the fun stuff.'”
Nevertheless, the TV personality is convinced his latest contract is his last. After he leaves, Kimmel says he’ll focus on his hobbies — cooking, drawing, and learning to do sculptures. Time will tell whether Kimmel eventually says goodbye to late-night television.
