On Wednesday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker posted a video on X accusing President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans of making life more expensive for families across the state. In the one-minute clip, which came from a recent press conference, the Democrat claimed Illinois has lost billions of dollars because of actions taken by the Trump administration, including federal policies, tariffs, and military spending. His remarks have drawn criticism from netizens who did not appear to agree with him.

Trump and the Republican Congress are costing Illinois over $8 billion.

Money for your schools, roads, and hospitals is being used to fund ICE, tax cuts for the wealthy, and a golden ballroom.

In the video, Pritzker said that Trump’s tariffs have increased the cost of everyday necessities for Americans, especially groceries, while the U.S. war with Iran has pushed gasoline prices even higher. “We’re working to survive a president of the United States that is attacking the people of Illinois and the people of the United States, particularly working families,” the governor stated.

He claimed in the caption of his post that the Trump administration has been redirecting funds meant to build schools, roads, and hospitals to benefit “ICE, tax cuts for the wealthy, and a golden ballroom.”

During the press conference, Pritzker said his administration is doing the opposite. According to him, Illinois officials have spent much of the last six months focusing on protecting working families and providing relief to vulnerable residents who are struggling to afford the rising expenses they are facing each month.

Netizens on X Slam Pritzker

The governor’s remarks drew him a ton of backlash on X, where many netizens pushed back on his claims and blamed his own administration instead for the hardship in the state.

“This idiot runs the state and he’s blaming everyone else for his failures. Typical Democrat,” one person wrote. Another responded, “More lies from King Pritzker. He’s making it harder for Illinois families with each tax increase and failure to cut spending.”

A third commented, “You couldn’t care less about working families otherwise you’d figure out a way to lower property taxes and gas taxes, both among the highest in the country.” A fourth simply remarked, “You cannot be serious.”

Some were more critical of Democrats in general. “Pritzker and Democrats in Illinois are riding on the backs of hard working Illinois residents!” one viewer said. Someone else claimed, “Democrats spent trillion [sic] of our taxes meant for infrastructure, Inflation reduction, daycares, Medicaid and hospice. We got zip.”

A few also accused the governor of having “Trump Derangement syndrome,” while others called on him to “resign.”

So far, the video has accumulated tens of thousands of views, and most of the reactions have been critical.
