Sure, living in New York City, New York is all fun and games, walking below the flashing lights of Times Square or getting to visit one of its many historic locations. However, there will always be times when things go unexpectedly, like finding yourself stuck in an elevator with a lawyer.
That’s exactly what happened to one woman, except that, instead of just patiently waiting for someone to come and rescue them, the two got to talking. Now that she’s out of the elevator, she has a lot more knowledge than ever before about what she can possibly use in a lawsuit against the building. Fortunately, it all seems like fun and games… right?
The above video was posted to the TikTok account @danessyauguste, who appears to be an influencer of some kind in New York named Danessy Auguste. All of her videos focus on her in some way or another, or on her daily life. In this particular video, she shares how she got trapped in an elevator for over an hour with none other than a lawyer. While casually chatting, she decided to pull out her phone and record their conversation.
You can physically see the comedic tone of the entire situation, which is exemplified further when Danessy suddenly asks, “So you don’t know how much money we can get out of this,” to which the alleged lawyer replies, “You know, I’ve been doing some back-of-the-napkin calculations in my head and I’m pretty sure, um, you know. Especially if we claim some sort of, like, pre-existing claustrophobia situation that was triggered by this, you know. Can you fake a panic attack?“

Commenters found this absolutely hilarious, with many of them commending Danessy for even inquiring about it in the first place, with one person saying, “Her thinking about that money.” Other comments came from lawyers who couldn’t help but agree that they would have done the same thing, with one saying, “As a lawyer I am always always doing “back of the napkin” calculations to see if I can sue and get some money 😭”
By the time the video ends, you can see that both Danessy and her new lawyer friend were rescued by workers. She did end up making an update video that clarifies that she was just being friendly in an odd situation. Well, if she ever comes across being stuck in an elevator again, at least she’ll have an idea of potential lawsuits.
