What happens when you have Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel and Jason Statham in a room? Apparently, nothing as their contracts basically say they can’t lose movie fights.
Recently, reports came out that on top of the bad blood between The Rock and Diesel, they also refuse to lose to each other. Additionally, it gets as minuscule as even the amount of damage they can take, in order not to look weaker.
Yes, men all near or at a half a century in age are fighting over fake fights. The Rock has editors, producers and fight coordinators on hand to make sure he dishes as much as he gets. Statham’s contract states how much damage he can take. Diesel’s producer sister says how many punches he can take.
These reports are supported by just watching the films. Hobbs and Shaw has a scene where The films main cyborg baddie, dubbed”Black Superman,” broke a sweat pushing a car off him. Meanwhile, The Rock pulls down a helicopter by a chain with his bare hands as if it was a balloon.
Fast Five features a scene where The Rock and Diesel go back and forth smashing each other through walls. This scene basically ends in a stalemate. Later, Rock gets into it with Statham and you get a protein shake for guessing what happens, another stalemate.
Hobbs and Shaw…and The Rest of Hollywood
The Hobbs and Shaw actors aren’t the first go through the mellow drama. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood deals with a similar issue regarding Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Rick Dalton.
Dalton is an actor in later part of his career that goes from being lead hero roles always win to playing someone who gets defeated. He soon realizes Hollywood is phasing him out by putting him in roles that have him look weak.
This subconscious tactic being used on audiences is nothing new. This is just another reason why there likely won’t be more scenes between The Rock and Diesel in the future. Hobbs and Shaw is out in theatres right now.
