Hollow Knight: Where To Find Every Mask Shard

The best thing you can do to make it through Hollow Knight‘s impressive combat system is to find where every Mask Shard is. This will increase your overall HP in the game, giving you a better chance of survival. If you collect more mask shards, you can take more hits before you are completely taken down, which makes the game a lot easier. Not to mention, if you are taken down, you must take down your Shade before you can regain your Geo, which is never fun. Keep reading to learn where to find every Mask Shard in Hollow Knight.

There are 16 Mask Shards in total throughout the game, which means you can collect 4 Ancient Masks, which each requires 4 Mask Shards to achieve. Each Mask Shard takes some time to achieve, though, since you have to buy the majority of them from in-game NPCs with Geo, and some others are dropped as rewards from Boss Fights, and others can just be found lying around.

Mask Shards Purchased from Sly
- Sly holds 4 Mask Shards, each available for a different price
- Mask Shard #1 – 150 Geo
- Mask Shard #2 – 500 Geo
- Mask Shard #3 – 800 Geo, and only available after you give Sly the Shopkeeper’s Key
- Mask Shard #4 – 1,500 Geo, and only available after you give Sly the Shopkeeper’s Key
Mask Shards given by Grubfather
- Mask Shard #5 – received from Grubfather as a reward for freeing 5 of his precious Grubs, among other rewards
Mask Shards as Boss Fight Rewards
- Mask Shard #6 – can be obtained by defeating the Brooding Mawlek in the Forgotten Crossroads
- Mask Shard #14 – can be obtained by defeating the Enraged Guardian in the Crystal Peak

- Mask Shard #7 – can be found under the only hot spring in the Forgotten Crossroads level, at the end of the area, just lying on the ground
Mask Shard in Bretta’s House
- Mask Shard #8 – can be found in Bretta’s House, but before you can get into Bretta’s House, you must rescue Bretta from the Fungal Wastes
Mask Shard in the Queen’s Station
- Mask Shard #9 – can be found just outside the Queen’s Station, in a room filled with spiked, toward the top of the area
  - Requires the Mantis Claw ability to obtain
Mask Shard in the Stone Sanctuary
- Mask Shard #10 – can be found in the room directly next to the No Eyes boss room
  - Requires the Lumafly Lantern
Mask Shard in the Royal Waterways
- Mask Shard #11 – can be found to the left of where Conifer is
  - Requires Lumafly Lantern
Mask Shard in the Deepnest
- Mask Shard #12 – can be found above the passage to the left of the Mantis Lord boss room
  - Requires Monarch Wings and Mantis Claw
Mask Shard in the Hive
- Mask Shard #13 – can be found in the center of the Hive map, in a room that can only be accessed after it has been broken by a Hive Guardian
