The 98th Academy Awards, which airs tonight, is host to the who’s who of the film industry. For one night, Los Angeles, California, hosts Hollywood’s most prestigious celebration. However, Conan O’Brien, the former late-night guru, who is proudly a Democrat, aimed and absolutely torched the conservative regime led by President Trump with political jabs that stunned the crowd and audiences watching around the world. Republicans and MAGA enthusiasts did not take kindly to the jabs online.
In a clip shared on X by Variety, which you can watch here, Conan is on center stage delivering his opening monologue. If you are in any way familiar with his comedy and/or political leanings, then you shouldn’t be too surprised by what he is capable of saying or doing, even with a massive live audience. After poking some fun at actors such as Timothee Chalamet for his opera-bashing, he then took aim at President Trump, Kid Rock, and the Epstein files.
Conan said these pair of jokes that left the Los Angeles crowd of celebrities stunned in mostly silence.
It’s the first time since 2012 that there are no British actors nominated for Best Actor or Best Actress. A British spokesperson said, ‘Yeah, well, at least we arrest our pedophiles.
This was a harsh line clearly aimed at Trump and his constant trouble with Epstein and the severely redacted files eventually released earlier this year. He then followed up with another scathing barb.

The pair of political laughs was aimed at those in power, and many MAGA and Republican citizens immediately took to online to counter his so-called Hollywood hypocrisy with scathing attacks of their own.

As you can see from a small sampling of the discourse, many are pointing out the irony of hosting an event in a place like Hollywood, which, in and of itself, is no stranger to controversy and to its affiliation with Epstein. The Oscars air on ABC, and some movies and actors are already big winners. KPop Demon Hunters won best animated film, and Amy Madigan has won best supporting actress for her role in Weapons. Just don’t expect Conan to win many California conservative voters anytime soon, if their anger is any indication.
