This article is over 1 years old and may contain outdated information.

Whose idea was it to give the giant vampire bat invisibility and a poison cloud? Considering its lethal combination of stealth, flight, and debuffs, you’ll be thankful Dreadwings weren’t around in Zero Dawn. Despite its sour demeanor and even sourer stench, the Dreadwing is an attractive target. Kill this big tin bat and you can net yourself some valuable resources, including ones like the Dreadwing Calculator that only Dreadwings drop. Once you’ve gotten your fill of slaying the standard variety, you can take the hunt farther afield in search of its Apex upgrade. Here are all the Dreadwing locations in Horizon Forbidden West.

Dreadwing Location

(Updated on March 22nd – clarified Dreadwing hunting process)

You’ll find the normal and Apex Dreadwing in different locations. The normal variety is in the desert in the southwest portion of the map, pictured above. Starting from Latopolis, travel a short distance northeast and you’ll find it flying around or perched on top of something. If you’ve never fought a Dreadwing in Horizon Forbidden West, take on this one before you think about challenging the Apex. Here are the Dreadwing’s resistances and weaknesses:

FireWeak
AcidResistant
FrostResistant
ShockResistant

When it uses its invisibility, you can still detect it due to the visual distortion around its body, so keep an eye out. Although its weakness is to Fire, consider using Shock arrows to stun it and bring it to the ground. You can then switch back to Fire for big damage. While you’re at it, do yourself a favor and destroy the Metalbite Sac on its neck to shut down its acid clouds. We don’t want Aloy looking like Two-Face in the Arkham games.

Apex Location

You can find the Apex Dreadwing in the frozen mountains, pictured above. Do your feet a favor; don’t even think about walking. Instead, override the Gemini Cauldron and grab the Sunwing mount to fly there in style. Here are the Apex Dreadwing’s resistances and weaknesses:

PlasmaWeak
FrostResistant
FireResistant
PurgewaterResistant

If you’re having trouble finding the Apex Dreadwing at this location, try searching at night. Like other bats, the Apex prefers to take to the skies after sundown. Beware of getting fried by its long-range electric blast, and you shouldn’t have too much trouble claiming its loot for yourself.

Horizon Forbidden West is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
