PlayStation’s action role-playing game Horizon Zero Dawn is coming to Netflix. Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions will prepare the new sci-fi series. Here’s what we know about the Horizon Zero Dawn series.
Sony announced this today during a presentation to investors. According to the Japanese company, there will also be a Netflix production around the racing game Gran Turismo. In addition, a series based on God of War is in development for Amazon Prime Video.
Sony and Netflix’s Horizon Zero Dawn deal
In a new presentation to investors from PlayStation CEO and President Jim Ryan, the latest agreement with Netflix was revealed. Saying that they will cooperate with Netflix for the Horizon Zero Dawn series, PlayStation CEO avoided giving more details about the series.
First released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2017 and then launched on PC in 2020, Horizon Zero Dawn is an action game that takes on post-apocalyptic Earth. The Horizon series is a sci-fi overrun by gigantic robotic animals. The successor Horizon Forbidden West was released in February of this year.
More Series and Movies are Coming from Sony
The plans are part of Sony’s strategy to produce and release more series and movies based on well-known game titles on various streaming services. For instance, HBO Max will receive a series around The Last of Us next year. Images were already shared last year, and we know that The Mandalorian‘s actor Pedro Pascal plays one of the lead roles.
Moreover, a Ghost of Tsushima movie is on the way, and a Twisted Metal series for the streaming service Peacock is in development.
In February, a movie based on the Uncharted was released, which did reasonably well in theaters despite poor reviews. The movie, starring Tom Holland, has surpassed more than $400 million worldwide.
